How ready are you to implement an ERP

You have the business need for an ERP, but can you pull it off? You need to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation to carry out a project.

Here is a checklist of questions you should answer:

  •  Is the top leadership aligned and supportive of the project?
  •  Do you have the necessary funding in place for this project?
  •  Do you have the IT staff and IT skills that will be necessary?
  •  Do you have the hardware and network in place that you will need( if you go SaaS/Cloud rather than on-site then the network is more critical)?
  •  Are your functional offices fully staffed?
  •  Do you have a skilled and experienced ERP project manager in place?
  •  Do the various working groups across the business or have they historically worked in
  • “silos”?
  •  Has your organisation historically done a good job of communicating with institutional stakeholders?
  •  Are there good leadership skills at the level of functional and technical department heads?
  •  Are the various stakeholders, aware of what is about to happen, how long it
  • will take, and how much effort it will take?

The answers to these questions will help you determine how prepared you are to undertake an ERP project.  You should be prepared to deal with the deficiencies or gaps that need to be closed before beginning the implementation.
